    Weight Loss Supplements to Avoid

Nutritional supplements are guaranteed to make you healthier and strengthen your immune system. There’s sufficient evidence to assume safely that a daily fish oil capsule or vitamin D tablet can provide many advantages for your health.

However, there’s not much scientific proof to suggest using weight loss supplements is an efficient way to cut down on your weight. This also includes some of the heavily advertised weight loss supplements that claim to have produced miraculous results.

These are some of the weight loss supplements to avoid if you want to attain a healthier body:

    Hoodia

The debate on whether Hoodia is of any use in reducing weight is widespread. A few non-randomized trials reveal that, although it can curb an overactive appetite, there is no evidence that it can promote weight loss in general. Apart from that, a number of studies also highlight that Hoodia can damage the liver and trigger other health complications in pregnant women, the elderly, and people with diabetes.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

For over 50 years, apple cider vinegar has been advertised as an efficient, natural weight-loss supplement. Is it of any help? A study has shown that it actually helps people by making them feel fuller. However, medical studies fail to prove that it can help you reduce weight. Moreover, owing to the acidity present in the vinegar, your digestive system and bones can be exposed to several risks. It can also have an adverse affect on your blood pressure and diabetes drugs. Consume apple cider vinegar only with salads, but don’t overuse it. Add it to the list of weight loss supplements to avoid.

    Bitter Orange

Bitter orange has attained fame thanks to its similar attributes to ephedra, which is associated with cardiovascular problems. No wonder it was banned! Like the above-mentioned weight loss supplements to avoid, there is no substantial proof to support that bitter orange can do much to help you in this regard. Apparently, use of bitter orange has even been linked to strokes and angina.

    Cinnamon and Chromium

Research has also been done on the use of cinnamon and chromium and the effects they have on blood glucose levels and insulin, particularly in diabetics. These products claim they regulate blood sugar and suppress appetite as a result. However, no medical evidence has yet confirmed this notion.

    Chitosan

According to BistroMD, another weight loss supplement that is best avoided is chitosan. This is derived from crustacean shells, and the manufacturers of these supplements claim that they can help block fat and even prevent it from being absorbed by your body when you consume foods that contain fat. While there is some research that appears promising at first, when you look closer, there are flaws within the design of the study that was done. Studies that followed did not prove that there are any big differences between using chitosan or a placebo to shed pounds.

    Laxatives

Are you tempted to take a laxative to remove more waste from your body more quickly, and lose weight in the process? It’s best if you don’t. A laxative can actually get in the way of your body being able to properly absorb a variety of nutrients and electrolytes, so taking laxatives can boost the risk of digestive problems, muscle cramps, and dehydration. Yikes! Instead, keep your digestion regular by eating foods that are high in fiber every day. That fiber will work on filling you up faster and keeping you full for longer, too, so you can even start cutting calories and portion sizes to lose weight in a smart way, without risking harm from strong laxatives.

Not All Weight Loss Supplements Are Good for You

You should be careful and know in advance which weight loss supplements to avoid if you want to achieve real weight loss and live a healthy life.
