    The Basic Definition of Conscious Movement

    Working out at a high speed might seem like the right way to burn calories and fat, but conscious movement is changing all of that. Being conscious, or focused on and aware of, every movement that you make during your exercise routine is proving to be effective and gentler on your body.

    Focusing your attention on a muscle during a bicep curl, and taking your time as you bring the weight up and down, is a form of conscious movement. You aren’t relying upon momentum to get the reps in; instead, you’re really working your body without being high-impact in the process.

    What Exercises Can You Do?

    According to The Guardian, doing yoga is a great example of a workout that incorporates conscious movement. That’s because you’re really focused on breathing with every movement, taking your time to adjust yourself into the proper alignment for every pose, and moving slowly from one pose to the next.

    You can also give LIIT (low-impact interval training) a try. This is the opposite of HIIT (high-intensity interval training). This can be as simple as walking for a few minutes every day and eventually building up to longer walks, and then alternating between walking and light jogging.

    Take Conscious Movement into Other Areas of Your Life

    Take things a step further and you could be practicing this technique while you are walking around town, while you are shopping and running errands, and more. It boils down to being aware of what your body is doing and what position it is in, and then adjusting accordingly to undo the damage of a sedentary lifestyle, a lack of sleep, and other poor lifestyle choices.
